I’m always looking for new items to use for the protection of my nesting tubes while the larva is developing into adult mason bees. This bag will hold up to 80 folded nesting tubes nicely. When you’re not using, it will store flat thus not taking up any room.

Its approximately 6 1/3 inches wide and approximately 6 inches tall when used to store nesting tubes. It’s approximately 2 inches tall when it’s not in use. It only weighs 1.6 ounces.

These storage bags provide safe over-winter storage of your mason bee larvae in their tubes. You can safely store the tubes in your refrigerator, keeping them cold but not letting them freeze, and possibly kill the larvae. Put your tubes back in their houses in the early spring, after the hardest freezes are over.

Reduce over-wintering losses from predators and very warm and very cold winter days, by storing your tubes through the winter months in a refrigerator or in an unheated, insulated shed, shop, or garage.

Place rubber-banded bundles of tubes (with openings pointing upwards or horizontal) inside these zippered protective bags, in the fall, before any hard freezes occur. For best results, store the bags in a refrigerator, which keeps the larvae cool but protected from freezes. In milder climates, like the Pacific Northwest, the bags can also be used in an unheated, insulated outbuilding, which doesn’t get too warm. Warmth may trigger early development of the larvae, leading to premature emergence and loss of your young mason bees.
